Who am I?

I am a Counselling Psychologist with over twenty-three years of experience, having had the privilege of working with families, adolescents and adults in a variety of therapeutic settings across South Africa and Canada.

Today, I work full-time in private practice in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, offering a safe and supportive space for growth and healing. My special interests have evolved over time and include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress management, adjustment to life changes, interpersonal challenges, and low self-esteem.

My therapeutic approach

I don’t believe that there is a one size fits all approach to working with people. I believe that therapy should be as unique as the person sitting in front of me. My approach is shaped by what will be most helpful for you  and I tailor make my therapeutic approach, taking into account your personality, your experiences, and the challenges you are facing. Rather than using a single method, I draw from a range of approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic theory. In 2022 I completed my training in Brain Work Recursivce Therapy. I am a qualified BWRT practitioner and do incorporate it into my therapeutic work if appropriate.

I work in a way that is respectful, collaborative, and non-pathologising — seeing you as more than a set of symptoms or problems. Rather than an expert, I see myself as a partner with whom one can journey and help navigate whatever it is that has led one to seek professional input. I try to create a supportive, understanding space where you can make sense of your experiences, discover your strengths, and move toward the changes and decisions that feel right for your life.

How therapy can help?

Life can be challenging, and at times it may feel overwhelming or confusing. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore what’s going on, understand yourself better, and develop tools to cope and grow.

Therapy can help you:

  • Make sense of your experiences – understand patterns, feelings, and reactions.
  • Manage difficult emotions – such as anxiety, sadness, stress, or anger.
  • Improve relationships – communicate more effectively and resolve conflict.
  • Build coping skills – develop healthier ways to handle life’s challenges.
  • Work through past experiences – process events that may still affect you today.
  • Find clarity and direction – identify values and make meaningful decisions.

It’s not just about problems — therapy can also be a place for self-discovery, personal growth, and building resilience. The process is collaborative: we work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you.

What to expect in your first therapy session

While being grounded in psychological theory, what I believe to be the most crucial aspect of any therapeutic process is the relationship between a therapist and client. Your first therapy session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brings you here. This provides a good opportunity to assess whether or not it is a good fit. There’s no need to prepare anything specific — just bring yourself.

We’ll start by talking about what has been happening in your life and what you’d like to work on. I’ll ask questions to help me understand your history, current challenges, and goals. This is also your opportunity to ask questions about how I work, my approach, and what therapy might look like for you.

You can expect a safe, confidential space where you are listened to without judgment. We’ll discuss practical matters too — such as session length, frequency, fees, and confidentiality — so you know exactly what to expect moving forward.
